Now I'm working on series of the shots from the
"Mad Max II - the Road Warrior".
This is the scene from the begging of the movie...
...bad guy got pierced with an arrow while chasing Max...
trough this arrow,Mad Max indirectly penetrated bad guy,
and since the guy with mohawk haircut is a gay,
his clash with Max is now personal...

Master pieces I can only copy?

Project presented here consists of copies of frames from carefully selected scenes from three animated films that had a major impact on me few years ago: Ghost in the Shell, Princess Mononoke and Heavy Metal.

It is available at ARTZONE 461 Gallery in San Francisco.

After numerous viewings of those movies (probably 40 times each), I was very inspired by them visually, philosophically and spiritually - by their stories, characters... But I didn't know how to react to those as an artist.

It took me some time and stress until I realized that the only way that I as an artist can respond to those masterpieces was to copy them. Copy as a celebration, copy as a careful analysis. In most traditional technique - oil on canvas.

Scenes that excited me the most were those "hidden ones", those that last one second or less, that may be difficult to notice but contain important meaning. To reverse process of animation instead of muving Im stopping those pictures.

Ghost in the Shell

The first scene I selected is from Ghost in the Shell, when the main character, girl cyborg Motoko Cusanagi, is falling from a skyscraper and in those 24 frames (1 second in animation) is experiencing enlightenment. That scene caught my attention right away, but it took me time to realize what happens in it. Her face is upside down, making it harder to perceive subtle changes in her expression. Replaying again and again,freezing frames I realized that while she is falling, her forehead gets cleared from hair, her eyes open wider, and she smiles subtly...
She is falling, but being a cyborg she does not have to fear death, so she can let go... and experience the opposite of fear...
Subtleness of expressions and animation, philosophical breakthrough, and my enlightenment as well.

Princess Mononoke

Next was Princess Mononoke. 7 frames, 1/3 of a second. I caught it and just knew that was the next thing for me to paint. In this case, main character, girl warrior, human orphan raised by wolf semi-god is cutting her way out through explosion in a mythical battle between animals and humans, where she is on animals' side, thus protecting nature.

HEAVY METAL

And the last ones are 6 frames from Heavy Metal 80's classic masterpiece which consists of six stories based on six different comics from that time. Taarna, the girl depicted here is in front of a green ball of evil and in these six frames her inner state, which is expressed on her face, is changing from fear of death to offensive attitude, as a way to defend her life.

As I was completing the paintings, I realized that somehow subconsciously I have chosen three movies (or they chose me) in which main characters are girls between 13 and 22, a period of major mind and body changes, and that all of my paintings are actually portraits.
Portrait as a classical art form.
First girl in contact with the divine, second one on the Buddhist middle path, and the third one facing evil. I did not make those stichcraft intentionally, it happened by itself. All the time trying to remove myself from what I was making, constantly oppressing the need for genuine creation of my own, not allowing myself as an artist any conscious intervention... And at the end I arrived at these portraits that reflect so much of me.

So portraits of those three girls ( at ages of major body and
mind changes) are at the bottom line self-portraits of myself.
Even my femine self...

Three cycles of murals. First two - done during the regular artmy service and the third one done after I got home.
Here they are presented in revers order :

NATO airplanes...with no marks, guns or missiles...
Just man, machine and nature...

Exhibited at DOB Gallery - Belgrade 2000.

Podgorica Air Base 1999.
Shit was already happening in Kosovo.
I did a bunch of murals on the walls of fighter-jets sheds ...
But then during 1999. the war broke up with NATO so the army barracks and sheds got bombed and destroyed together with my art...
Only have photos after bombings...

First murals were done during 1998. in the regular but mandatory army service at Sombor air base. Big question was - How to do my service as easy as it is possible? So I proposed to my superior officers that I could do some moral improving murals of Jugoslav Airforce planes, and in return I could be withdrawn from exhausting exercises and boring jobs ...and it worked...
